Rat Rods

"Rat Rod" is a relatively recent word for the hot rods of the 1940s and early 1950s. A rat rod is a hot rod that has not been restored to its original condition, but rather has been restored or rebuilt only to the extent that is needed for the car to run.

Rat rods commonly sport numerous splotches of primer, and are frequently missing many parts, or are cobbled together out of mismatched parts from different makes and models.

Rat rods can often be purchased or restored at a fraction of the cost of restoring a vintage car to its original factory condition.
